Pool resurfacing cost by finish

The same contractor prints that three-line list on its Kyle, Schertz and Seguin pages too, so treat it as an area list. A second New Braunfels list puts replastering at $5,000 to $10,000, also as of October 2026.

Across the country, the 2025 average job comes to $11,000, on a usual range of $6,000 to $15,000 for a 1,000-square-foot pool. Per square foot, those 2025 national figures run $6 to $8 for plaster, $7 to $10 for quartz plaster and $7 to $15 for pebble.

Fiberglass, vinyl liner and painted pools

Other pool types follow other price lines. On 2025 national figures, resurfacing a fiberglass pool costs $7,000 to $15,000, while repairing dings, scratches and cracks in the gelcoat (the colored resin surface) runs $300 to $400. An inground vinyl liner costs $3,000 to $7,500 installed, on 2023 national averages. Paint is the low end, at $1 to $2 per square foot nationally in 2025.

What moves a pool resurfacing quote

Two pools with the same finish can get very different quotes. These are the lines that move the number.

Inside surface area, not gallons

Resurfacing is priced on the pool's inside surface: walls, floor, steps, benches and ledges. That is why the San Antonio-area list above sorts its prices by square feet of surface, from under 400 to over 600. The finish material is the single biggest cost driver, the same contractor's 2026 cost guide adds.

Prep, chip-out and repairs

Old plaster has to be chipped, ground or bond-coated before new material can grip it. Heavy prep, such as cutting out failed plaster or grinding rough patches, adds labor hours. On 2026 national figures, draining, acid washing the old surface and chipping out loose plaster can add $500 to $1,500. A San Antonio contractor also lists the pool's current condition, complex shapes, beach entries and spas among its price factors.

Ledges and benches

Every shelf inside the pool is surface too. Resurfacing an existing tanning ledge of 30 to 80 square feet adds $300 to $1,000 in plaster, or $600 to $2,000 in pebble, on 2026 national figures.

Access and labor

A narrow side yard, a steep grade or little room to stage materials adds labor. National 2025 figures put resurfacing labor at $45 to $65 an hour, and up to $110 on another national figure.

Draining and refilling a pool in New Braunfels

Draining adds $175 to $225 on 2025 national averages. Another 2025 national figure puts draining and cleaning together at $600 to $650.

Here, the city's drought plan also decides whether a pool may be drained at all. Since October 1, 2026, it allows a drain for only three reasons: rain overflow, a pool part that has become hazardous, or a leak. It doesn't mention resurfacing, so ask New Braunfels Utilities before you count on a drain date. As read on October 5, 2026, the city had been in drought Stage 2 since August 10, 2026. The utility adds no drought surcharge in Stages 0 to 2.

Working out the refill water

The utility publishes its rates but no pool-fill example, so the water bill is yours to work out:

  1. Measure the pool's length, width and average depth in feet.
  2. Multiply the three, then multiply by 7.5 for a rectangle, 6.7 for an oval or 7.0 for a kidney shape. For a round pool, multiply the diameter by itself, then by the average depth and 5.9. Pentair, a pool equipment maker, works one example: 40 by 20 feet at 5.5 feet average depth holds 33,000 gallons.
  3. Add the household's usual water use for that month. The tiers count everything the meter records, not the fill alone.
  4. Price the total with the utility's Residential Rate Calculator, or against the tiers in the table.

Ask whether a quote includes the water: some contractors build it in, and others leave it to you. For comparison, refilling averages $55 per 5,000 gallons on 2025 national figures.

Pool resurfacing cost questions

What is the average cost to replaster a pool in Texas?

It depends on the city and the list. Typical New Braunfels prices put replastering at $4,000 to $7,000 on one local list and $5,000 to $10,000 on another, both as of October 2026. San Antonio-area figures from 2026 run $3,500 to $5,000 for white plaster on a pool under 400 square feet of surface, and $7,000 to $10,000 over 600. Nationally, the 2025 range for replastering is $6,000 to $8,000.

How much to replaster a 10,000 gallon pool?

No published price list goes by gallons. Plaster is priced on the inside surface area, so ask for that figure in square feet and compare per-foot prices. Typical San Antonio-area white plaster runs $4 to $6 per square foot, as of October 2026. The 2025 national average for plaster is $6 to $8 per square foot.

How much does it cost to resurface a 20,000 gallon pool?

Gallons depend on depth as much as on length and width. One city's pool water estimator puts a 16-by-32-foot rectangle, 3 feet deep at the shallow end and 7 at the deep end, at 19,200 gallons. A San Antonio-area list, as of October 2026, prices an average 400-square-foot pool (about 14 by 28 to 16 by 32 feet). White plaster runs $6,500 to $8,500, quartz $9,500 to $13,500 and pebble $13,000 to $18,000 or more.

How much is it to replaster a 30000 gallon pool?

Pentair's example pool shows the scale: 40 by 20 feet at 5.5 feet average depth holds 33,000 gallons, and its floor alone covers 800 square feet. For pools with more than 600 square feet of surface, typical San Antonio-area 2026 prices run $7,000 to $10,000 in white plaster. Quartz runs $10,000 to $13,000, and Pebble Tec $12,000 to $15,000.

How much does it cost to resurface a concrete pool?

On 2025 national figures, resurfacing a gunite (concrete) pool costs about $6,500 per 1,000 square feet of surface, against $1,000 to $3,500 for a vinyl-lined pool. The finish moves it from there: plaster runs $5,500 per 1,000 square feet with labor and materials, on the same figures.
