Quartz Pool Finishes in New Braunfels, TX
New Braunfels Quality Pool Resurfacing applies quartz pool finishes in New Braunfels, Texas. A quartz finish is pool plaster made with crushed quartz, one of nature's hardest minerals, set in white cement. The National Plasterers Council rates it harder and far more resistant to changing water chemistry than standard white plaster. We put quartz on backyard pools and on homeowners association, apartment and hotel pools.
Pricing a quartz finish costs nothing; ask by phone or with the form. Before a date is set, we'll go over color and texture, and what the city's hard water means for a smooth finish. We'll also cover the drought plan's limits on draining a pool.

Quartz pool plaster: hardness, texture and color
Hard quartz in place of soft marble
Standard white plaster uses crushed white marble as its aggregate, the sand-like grains in the mix. Quartz takes its place. Quartz doesn't react with pool chemicals, the plastering industry says. Unlike marble, it won't dissolve even in strong acid, adds the maker of Diamond Brite, a quartz finish. Quartz finishes grew out of a problem. By the late 1980s, spot etching (small rough spots eaten into the surface) in plaster had reached what that maker calls epidemic proportion across the U.S. Diamond Brite followed in the early 1990s. It also adds polymers to the cement, which it says make the finish harder, help it bond and let less water in.
Smooth or lightly textured
Quartz can be finished anywhere from smooth to textured. Near the end of the job, the cement film on top is washed or brushed away to expose the quartz. That leaves a colorful, slip-resistant surface. One maker says owners describe its natural-quartz finish as comfortable, with a very slight texture. Another of its blends swaps 35% of the marble sand for white quartz and is troweled smooth, so it isn't counted as a textured surface.
Color, mottling and stains
Quartz leaves some cement on the surface, so it shares plaster's cosmetic quirks, a finish maker explains. Colored quartz can look more blotchy, with swirls and trowel marks. Finishes with exposed stones have that cement removed and show fewer of these marks. Light mottling in the first weeks usually evens out over about six months, Diamond Brite's maker says. Smooth, light-colored quartz also shows mineral stains sooner than pebble, whose texture breaks up minor staining, the same maker notes. If hiding stains matters most, our pebble pool finishes page covers the textured option.

How a quartz finish goes on
A quartz finish goes onto an empty shell, and since October 1, 2026, the city's drought plan has limited draining in every month of the year. Put the question to New Braunfels Utilities before booking a date; New Braunfels Quality Pool Resurfacing explains the rule at the free estimate.
Troweled on, then exposed
Diamond Brite's maker gives the numbers for its finish. Each 80 lb bag covers about 22 to 25 square feet, and the coat is worked to a final 3/8 to 1/2 inch. Exposing the quartz takes one worker for every 300 square feet, and the window lasts about an hour. Washing the surface with water and brushes gives the best result, it says. An acid wash is easier but can leave the finish less even. Another quartz maker's data sheet waits several hours, then clears the cement film with a dilute muriatic acid wash and brushing.
Heat, wind and the first 72 hours
Heat is the bigger risk here. On federal climate averages for 1991–2020, New Braunfels sees 27.9 days at 90°F or hotter in an average July and 28.4 in August. Diamond Brite's maker sets a range of 50°F to 100°F for the materials and the work area, from 24 hours before the finish goes on to 72 hours after. A hot, dry shell makes the plaster set too fast, it warns, which can lead to shrinkage cracks and the finish coming loose (delamination). Another quartz maker says to shield a fresh finish from wind, heat and dry air by fogging, misting or a cover that doesn't touch it.

Start-up, water balance and quartz finish warranties
Quartz finish start-up: the first four weeks
The first four weeks shape a quartz finish more than any other time, its maker says. Its start-up rules for Diamond Brite:
- keep calcium hardness at 125 parts per million (ppm) or more for the first three days, then at 200 to 400 ppm;
- brush the whole surface twice a day for three days, then the walls and floor daily for two weeks;
- no wheeled vacuum for 14 days;
- no automatic cleaner, salt, chlorine floater or salt chlorinator until the 28 days are up;
- don't drain the pool for any reason while it cures.
Our pool start-up page walks through the routine step by step.
Hard water and a smooth surface
Part of the city's supply is groundwater, which the water utility says carries extra calcium and magnesium. State records of its treated water show calcium alone ranging from 41.4 mg/L on January 28, 2025 to 97.8 mg/L on July 16, 2025. On August 17, 2026, total alkalinity read 233 to 236 mg/L at four of the utility's entry points. Diamond Brite's maker keeps alkalinity at 80 to 120 ppm in a finished pool, and ppm and mg/L are the same measure. Testing fill water should no longer be optional, the plastering industry says, since it can bring scale, etching or metal stains with it.
Smooth quartz rewards steady care. Use a nylon brush, the same maker says, because stainless steel bristles will mark the finish. Call an installer for widespread etching, persistent dark mottling, calcium nodules or any sign of the finish separating from the shell, it adds.
What quartz finish warranties cover
Quartz warranties come from the makers, and each has conditions. Diamond Brite carries 1 year against material failure. Registered online within 30 days, it extends to 10 years on a home pool or 5 on a commercial one, shrinking year by year (pro-rated). The maker supplies material for the failed area only, not labor, and doesn't warrant the color of tinted finishes. A claim needs monthly printed water-test reports from a company using a computerized system, plus the bags' batch numbers. Delamination, surface cracking, structural cracks and damage from draining aren't covered. To protect the finish, the maker says to drain only when absolutely necessary, never in the first year, and to refill within 24 hours. Other quartz makers set their own terms. One wants a factory-approved applicator and registration within 30 days; another, a certified installer and registration within 60.

As of October 2026, typical New Braunfels prices for quartz run $6,500 to $10,000. On national averages for 2025, quartz plastering costs $7,000 to $10,000. The finish itself is the biggest single cost. Beyond that, the price depends on the pool's inside surface area, including steps, benches and ledges, and on how much of the old surface has to come off.
None of these figures are our prices; a real price for your pool comes with the free estimate from New Braunfels Quality Pool Resurfacing. White plaster runs $4,000 to $7,000 on the same New Braunfels list, and our pool replastering page covers it. The guide to plaster vs quartz vs pebble pool finishes lines up all three.

(830) 302-4112Questions about quartz pool plaster
What are pool quartz finishes?
They're cement pool finishes that use quartz as the aggregate. One finish maker describes white Portland cement mixed with color-coated quartz, which makes a strong, nonporous, stain-resistant surface that resists erosion from unbalanced water. Many come pre-mixed from the maker, Diamond Brite among them. Quartz is one of the four cement finish families the plastering industry lists, with pebble, polished and traditional white plaster.
How long does quartz pool plaster last?
The National Plasterers Council gives quartz a 10 to 15 year surface, against 5 to 8 years for traditional white plaster. Diamond Brite's maker gives two figures of its own: 10 to 15 years with proper care on its product page, and 8 to 12 years in its maintenance guide. No source gives a separate figure for Texas or New Braunfels. Water left out of balance is what wears finishes out most often, in the council's view.
Which pool finish is better for my pool, quartz or plaster?
Quartz costs more and holds up better. On typical 2025 San Antonio-area figures, it runs $1,500 to $3,000 more than plaster. In return, the National Plasterers Council calls colored quartz aggregate a much more durable surface than standard plaster, and far more resistant to shifting water chemistry. White plaster is the most affordable finish, and plain white avoids the blotchiness that tinted cement finishes can show. Neither is immune: under extreme water chemistry, quartz can still have surface problems.
What colors do quartz pool finishes come in?
Diamond Brite lists seven standard colors, Tahoe Blue and French Gray among them, and makes custom blends from two or more of them. Another maker's quartz finish comes in 16 colors. The color of the finish does more than anything else to set the color of the water, a finish maker notes. New Braunfels Quality Pool Resurfacing goes over the color choices with you at the free estimate.
Can a quartz finish be acid washed?
Yes, with care. Diamond Brite can be acid washed several times in its life without permanent damage, its maker says. Another finish maker says an acid wash can remove the top layer of deposits left by severe scale and stains. It must be done carefully, though, and any etching it causes can't be undone. A plastering glossary describes a diluted acid wash as removing stains while compromising little, if any, of the surface.
