Fiberglass Pool Resurfacing in La Vernia, Texas

New Braunfels Quality Pool Resurfacing handles fiberglass pool resurfacing in La Vernia, Texas. Fiberglass pools leave the factory with a colored resin surface called gelcoat. Once it turns chalky, faded, cracked or blistered, the choice is a spot repair or a coating made to bond over the whole shell with the pool still in the ground. La Vernia sits on the south bank of Cibolo Creek, where U.S. Highway 87 meets FM 775, fifteen miles north of Floresville in Wilson County.

Phone or send the form whenever you like; there's no fee for the estimate. We'll check what your pool's maker allows before any water comes out. We'll also cover the city's refill days and hours, and whether the damage calls for a repair or a full coating.

Sandy ground south of Cibolo Creek

La Vernia doesn't sit on Hill Country rock. Its largest soil in the U.S. Department of Agriculture's survey is Wilco loamy fine sand. Venus clay loam and Floresville fine sandy loam follow, then Buchel clay, which occasionally floods. Wilco has no bedrock recorded. Its top 41 cm is only 7 percent clay, but the layer below, from 41 to 81 cm, is 41.5 percent clay. The survey rates Wilco only somewhat limited for concrete driveways and sidewalks, while Buchel clay is very limited by its shrink-swell.

That mix matters when a fiberglass shell is emptied. A fiberglass pool maker calls draining any kind of pool risky: once too little water is left inside, groundwater can push on the shell until it bulges, cracks or even floats. Soil type sets how long water lingers around a pool, the same maker says: sandy soil lets it through most easily and clay least. With sand above and clay below, neither rule of thumb settles it alone, which is one reason groundwater is checked before a fiberglass pool is drained.

What fiberglass makers say about draining

For a fiberglass pool, the warranty often decides who may drain it. River Pools, a fiberglass pool maker, says most makers require an authorized dealer to handle any draining, or the warranty may be void. One maker's care manual says outright that draining voids its warranty. A second won't let owners lower the water past the skimmer, let alone drain, unless it signs off first. A third maker's lifetime warranty covers the gelcoat against blisters for ten years, and draining the pool voids that cover as well.

So the first call goes to your pool's maker or dealer, with the pool's make and age in hand. More detail on the makers' terms, and on the coatings applied with the pool in the ground, is on our fiberglass pool resurfacing page.

The city's water and its refill hours

La Vernia's water is groundwater. It comes from city wells at the City Yard, at City Hall and along Highway 87, plus water from Canyon Regional Water Authority wells delivered through East Central. The city's 2025 water report doesn't list a hardness reading.

Refilling is where the city's rules matter most. Its Water Conservation Plan, adopted April 9, 2026, counts filling a pool as non-essential water use:

  • in Stage 2, a pool may be filled, refilled or topped up only on designated watering days, between midnight and 10 a.m. or between 8 p.m. and midnight;
  • in Stage 4, filling, refilling or adding water to a pool is prohibited.

On October 6, 2026, the city's home page reported a move from Stage 3 to Stage 2, with no date given for the change.

That timing weighs more on fiberglass than on most pools. River Pools' advice is never to drain a fiberglass pool, and to hold the water between a third and halfway up the skimmer. So a shell shouldn't sit empty waiting for a permitted refill. Confirm the current stage with City Hall before any water comes out.

Barrier rules while the work is done

La Vernia builds to the 2018 International Residential Code, and its property maintenance rules cover pool barriers. Any private pool, hot tub or spa holding more than 24 inches of water must be fully surrounded by a fence or barrier at least 48 inches high. Gates must close and latch on their own. The rules also bar removing, replacing or changing an existing enclosure in any way that weakens it as a safety barrier. That is worth planning around if equipment needs a way into the yard.

The city doesn't say whether resurfacing a pool needs a permit. City Hall, at 102 E. Chihuahua Street, can tell you.

Post Oak, then La Vernia

Settlers arrived around 1850, and a post office opened in 1853 under the name Post Oak. It became La Vernia in 1859, the year the Brahan Masonic lodge was founded there. German and Polish immigrants brought the population to 110 by 1885, and the San Antonio and Gulf Railroad lifted it to 343 by 1900. By 1915 the town had two gins, a bank, four churches, a pottery plant and a brick works.

La Vernia incorporated around 1980 and is still small but growing: 1,077 people at the 2020 Census and an estimated 1,499 on July 1, 2025. The 2020 Census counted 494 homes. A 1997 median build year and a $347,400 median value come from the Census Bureau's 2020–2024 survey, though survey figures for a town this size carry wide margins.

Beyond the fiberglass surface

Not every pool here is fiberglass, and not every fiberglass problem calls for a full resurface. We also paint pools, replaster and repair plaster, replace in-ground vinyl liners, rework tile and coping, and find and fix leaks. In Guadalupe County, on Cibolo Creek, New Braunfels Quality Pool Resurfacing also offers pool tile cleaning in Zuehl.

How fiberglass resurfacing runs

Maker and industry practice, with the city's refill rules built in.

  1. Inspect the gelcoat and estimate

We look at the gelcoat for chalking, fading, spider cracks and blisters, and note who made the pool. The estimate is free.

  2. Clear the drain with the maker

Many fiberglass warranties allow draining only by an authorized dealer or with the maker's approval.

  3. Check the city's drought stage

In Stage 2, refilling has to fit the city's designated days and hours; in Stage 4 it isn't allowed at all.

  4. Drain in dry weather, walls braced

The water comes out only in dry weather, with groundwater pumped away and braces set against the side walls, as one maker's method describes.

  5. Repair or coat the fiberglass

Damaged spots are repaired, or the whole surface gets a coating made to bond to fiberglass in place. New gelcoat isn't sprayed in a backyard, because it needs a factory's steady curing conditions.

  6. Refill and rebalance for fiberglass

The pool is refilled within the city's allowed hours, and the water is balanced for fiberglass, not for plaster.
