Pool Liner Replacement in Redwood, Texas

New Braunfels Quality Pool Resurfacing offers pool liner replacement in Redwood, Texas, for in-ground vinyl liner pools in the community on Cottonwood Creek and Farm Road 1978. The old liner comes out and a new one, made to the pool's own measurements, goes in. The ground at the center of Redwood is heavy clay, and Crystal Clear Special Utility District's drought rules decide when the new liner can be filled.

A free estimate is a phone call or a form away, 24/7. We'll talk through measuring, the timing of the drain on clay ground, and the district's current stage before anything is ordered.

Houston Black clay and an emptied liner pool

The U.S. Department of Agriculture maps Houston Black clay at the center of Redwood. It makes up 80 percent of that map unit, and its shrink-swell value, a measure of how much the soil swells and shrinks with moisture, tops out at 12 percent. For shallow digging the department rates it very limited, since the sides of a trench won't stay put and the soil is too clayey. Concrete driveways and sidewalks on it get the same rating, for high shrink-swell. That's one point in the community; other soils occur elsewhere.

Clay matters most when the pool is empty. River Pools, a fiberglass pool maker, calls draining any pool risky, whether it's concrete, vinyl liner or fiberglass. Without enough water inside to push back, groundwater pressure can bulge, crack or even float a shell, and with enough lift a vinyl liner bubbles up and floats too. The soil decides how long water lingers around a pool: sand lets it through most easily, clay least of all.

Lowering the water with care

Merlin, a liner maker, tells owners not to take the water below 2 feet in the shallow end without the dealer's advice. A pool-supply retailer's guide also advises against draining while heavy rain keeps falling for days. On clay that holds water, we'll talk through the timing before the pump goes in.

Crystal Clear's drought stages and the refill

Redwood falls inside Crystal Clear Special Utility District on the Texas Water Development Board's map of water service areas. On October 6, 2026, the district's drought page said Stage 3 was in force, with sprinklers allowed one day a week, before 10 a.m. or after 8 p.m.

Its 2024 drought plan sets the pool rules:

  • from Stage 2, filling, refilling or adding water to any pool is allowed only on designated watering days, between 8 p.m. and 10 a.m.;
  • Stage 3 keeps that rule;
  • Stage 4 prohibits filling, refilling or adding water to swimming pools, wading pools and Jacuzzi-type pools.

The same page later referred to Stage 4 restrictions, so confirm the stage with the district's office before the old liner comes out. The refill is the step these rules reach, which is why the stage decides when a liner job can finish.

What the refill water carries

Crystal Clear's 2025 report lists Edwards Aquifer wells, plus surface water and groundwater bought through the Canyon Regional Water Authority and the Alliance Regional Water Authority. The district also has an interconnect, a shared pipe link, with Springs Hill Special Utility District. The report gives no hardness figure. One state sample of treated water entering the district's system read 315 mg/L of total hardness on April 10, 2025.

For vinyl, the number to watch is pH. Merlin links high pH to scale forming on a liner, and low pH to the vinyl drying out and wrinkling as it loses its softeners.

Measuring an in-ground pool for its liner

A replacement liner is cut from the pool's measurements, so they have to be right. In Latham's measuring book, every depth starts at the bead receptor, the track along the top of the wall that holds the liner's edge. Wall height runs from there down to where the floor meets the wall.

Liner thickness, the signs a liner is worn out and the makers' warranty terms are all on the pool liner replacement page.

Three one-teacher schools on Cottonwood Creek

Redwood lies on Cottonwood Creek and Farm Road 1978, seventeen miles north of Seguin in northern Guadalupe County. A post office ran there from 1895 to 1906, and in 1904 three one-teacher schools taught ninety-one students. By the 1950s those schools had become part of the San Marcos district.

Most of the growth came late. The state's history records give 400 people for both 1980 and 1990 and 3,586 for 2000. The 2020 Census counted 4,003 people and 1,215 homes. The Census Bureau's 2020–2024 survey dates the median home to 1991, with 31.2 percent built in the 1980s and 27.0 percent in the 1990s. That's the age of the houses, not of any pool.

Redwood is unincorporated, so its building rules are Guadalupe County's, and the county's floodplain permit names pools among the work that needs one in a flood zone.

Beyond the liner

With the liner out, the tile at the top of the wall, the coping and the deck around it can be looked at too. A ledge or bench can also be added then. A pool that keeps losing water deserves a leak test before a new liner goes in.

Like Redwood, Geronimo has no city government and sits under Guadalupe County's rules; New Braunfels Quality Pool Resurfacing handles pool leak detection in Geronimo as well.

How a liner change runs in Redwood

Typical practice for an in-ground vinyl pool. The liner maker's instructions come first.

  1. Free liner estimate

Share the pool's rough size and shape, and roughly when the current liner went in.

  2. Ask Crystal Clear about the stage

Find out which stage is in force, since Stage 4 would stop the refill.

  3. Measure

Depths and wall heights are taken from the bead receptor, and the new liner is ordered to those numbers.

  4. Drain with the ground in mind

The water comes down once the new liner is ready, with the clay and any recent rain in mind. A pool-supply retailer's guide warns against leaving an in-ground pool empty for long.

  5. Set the liner and refill

The new liner goes in, and the pool is filled on the district's watering days, between 8 p.m. and 10 a.m.

Liner questions from Redwood

How much does it cost to replace an in-ground pool liner?

National figures from 2023 put an in-ground liner replacement at $3,000 to $7,500 installed. That figure is a national average, not a quote. Size, shape and the liner's thickness move the number, and a firm figure starts with the free estimate.

What are the replacement options for a vinyl pool liner?

The main choice is thickness. Latham names 20 and 27 mil, thousandths of an inch, as the usual replacement options, and says the thicker liner costs more to install but holds up better. The change is also the moment to add a tanning ledge, a bench or custom steps, the same maker says, since many such upgrades need structural changes beneath the liner.
