Hotel and Resort Pool Resurfacing in New Braunfels, TX
New Braunfels Quality Pool Resurfacing takes on hotel pool resurfacing in New Braunfels, Texas, for hotels, motels, resorts and RV parks. Texas counts these lodging pools as public pools, open to guests rather than the general public, and the city requires a license to run one within its limits. We replaster lodging pools, refinish them in quartz or pebble, and redo the tile markings inspectors look for.
Estimates for lodging pools are free, with calls taken 24/7. Before work is booked, we'll go over the closure window, the weather limits on a new finish, and the city's drain and refill rules for public pools.

Choosing a closure window for a hotel pool
Weather limits on a hotel pool finish
A new finish needs the right weather for a few days, not a whole season. One quartz maker says to apply its finish above 40°F. It also wants the fresh plaster shielded from fast drying in high wind, high heat or low humidity, by fogging, misting or a cover that doesn't touch the surface. A glass bead maker warns against direct sun while its finish goes on, and suggests shade cloth or tarps. On federal climate averages for 1991–2020, New Braunfels sees 116.8 days a year at 90°F or hotter and 32.0 nights at or below freezing.
How long guests go without the pool
The closure covers draining, preparing the shell, the finish, the fill and start-up. Laticrete, a tile-setting maker, says a tiled pool should be emptied at 2 feet per 24 hours, so water pressure from the ground doesn't loosen the tile. New waterline tile or tile depth markers then need to cure before the fill. Laticrete asks for 14 days at 70°F with latex-fortified cement grout, or 10 days at 70°F with epoxy grout.
A pool industry fact sheet sets out a basic 28-day start-up for a new plaster finish. Swimming can begin once the water is balanced and the right level of sanitizer is reached, it says.
Off-season closures and the drain rule
An off-season closure doesn't have to mean an empty pool. When an outdoor public pool sits unused for a long stretch, Texas asks only that the water stay clear and free of algae; its other chemical limits can wait. Keeping a tiled pool partly filled through a seasonal closing also protects the tile bond from groundwater pressure, the same tile-setting maker notes.
If the pool must be emptied, talk to New Braunfels Utilities first. The city's drought plan lets a public pool refill only after a drain to repair a hazardous part or a leak, and it never mentions resurfacing. Drained water can't go into the street or a storm drain.

Drain covers and their ratings
Federal law counts a pool for hotel patrons as a public pool, so its drains need compliant anti-entrapment covers. A drained pool is the easy time to check them against the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission's checklist. Each cover should carry an accepted label, have no loose or missing screws, and be within the service life marked on it. It should also show a flow rating in gallons per minute, with the pool's maximum flow at or below that number.
Depth and no-diving markers on the deck
Markers belong on the deck as well as the wall, which is worth checking when coping or deck work is part of the job. The pool code puts deck depth markers within 18 inches of the water's edge, readable by someone facing the pool, with a slip-resistant surface. Where a public pool is 5 feet deep or less, it adds a No Diving symbol on the deck. The symbols sit no more than 25 feet apart, each right beside a depth marker. Texas sets that symbol at least 4 inches high: a diver's outline in a circle with a 45-degree slash through it. It isn't required on the tile line inside the pool.
Benches and water lounges
If a lodging pool has underwater benches or seats, the 2021 code Texas adopts sets limits for them. A bench's top may be at most 20 inches below the waterline. Its clear surface must be at least 10 inches deep and 24 inches wide, and a bench can't serve as the pool's required way in and out. The city's inspection form also checks for a 1-by-1 stripe on the leading edge of benches and water lounges.
The 2020 Census counted 2,167 Canyon Lake homes set aside for seasonal, recreational or occasional use; New Braunfels Quality Pool Resurfacing takes on resort pool resurfacing in Canyon Lake too.

Finish choices for a hotel or resort pool
Light finishes, with a few exceptions
Hotel pools follow the light-finish rule in the 2021 pool code that Texas adopts, so nothing on the bottom is hidden. On the Munsell color value scale, where a higher number means a lighter shade, the finish must reach 6.5 or more. The exceptions include waterline tile, step and bench edge markings, pools shallower than 24 inches, and approved features such as rock formations. A resort-style design can use those exceptions, while the main floor and walls stay light.
Our commercial pool resurfacing page covers the full set of state rules. Apartment, condominium and homeowners association (HOA) pools, in the same state class, have their own HOA pool resurfacing page.
Warranties on a busy pool
Finish makers write shorter warranties for commercial pools. Wet Edge's quartz line carries 10 years on a home pool but 5 on a commercial one, and its enhanced plaster 7 against 3. A liner maker explains why it won't promise home-pool life in a commercial pool: more swimmers, usually warmer water, heavier chemical demands and more upkeep.

Which finish lasts longest in a hotel pool?
Pebble, on the National Plasterers Council's figures: a 12 to 18 year surface. Quartz follows at 10 to 15 years, a polished finish at 8 to 12, and traditional white plaster at 5 to 8. Water care can shorten any of them. The council says a cement finish's life can be cut severely when the water stays aggressive, meaning out of balance, for long periods.
Is it worth resurfacing a hotel pool?
For a hotel, a worn finish is a guest-safety question as well as a looks one. The pool code says surfaces where swimmers stand must be slip resistant and must not cause injury in normal use. Resurfacing becomes necessary, the National Plasterers Council says, once cracks and wear can no longer be patched or the pool's look is no longer acceptable.
When should a hotel close its pool for resurfacing?
No standard or maker names a season, so for a hotel the real question is which weeks the property can spare the pool. Within those weeks, the makers' temperature limits pick the days, and the city's drain rule applies in every month. The closure-window section above covers both.
How much does hotel pool resurfacing cost?
Resurfacing prices for hotel and resort pools aren't published, in Texas or anywhere else. National resurfacing averages describe backyard pools and would mislead here. New Braunfels Quality Pool Resurfacing prices each pool and spa after a look at the property, and the estimate is free.
Do hotel spas follow the same rules as the pool?
Largely, yes. The city's definition of a semipublic pool, which needs a license, takes in any pool, spa or sauna serving a hotel or motel. Texas also sets its own water limits for public spas. Calcium hardness, for one, must be at least 100 parts per million and no more than 800, with 150 to 400 the ideal.
